Guinea pigs make very good small pets, however, as with all pets, it is essential to keep a close eye on their health in case you notice anything that may be an indication that they have an issue. If you feel that your guinea pig is scratching more than normal, then it may be an indication that they are suffering from skin parasites, this may also manifest as hair loss. Guinea pigs are very sociable animals, and it is all too easy for parasites to pass from one to the other so if you have more than one you should ensure that your treat both. You will also need to clean out their cage to avoid reinfection. If they are indoor guinea pigs, you should also do a thorough clean to avoid parasites remaining. At Petfleas we stock a wide range of topical treatments that should help your guinea pig to stay happy and healthy.
